General Information
|
|
Scheduled transportation networks give rise
to very complex and large-scale network optimization problems
requiring innovative solution techniques and ideas from
mathematical optimization and theoretical
computer science. Applicable tools and concepts include those from
graph and network algorithms,
combinatorial optimization, approximation and online algorithms,
stochastic and robust optimization.
Since 2000, the series of
ATMOS workshops brings
together researchers and practitioners who are interested in
all aspects of algorithmic methods and models for scheduled
transportation optimization and provides a forum for the
exchange and dissemination of new ideas and techniques.

Topics
|
|
We invite papers for presentation at
the workshop on optimization problems for scheduled passenger and
freight (cargo) transport, including - but not limited to -
- Infrastructure Planning
- Line Planning
- Timetable Generation
- Routing and Platform Assignment
- Vehicle Scheduling
- Crew and Duty Scheduling
- Rostering
- Demand Forecasting
- Design of Tariff Systems
- Maintenance and Shunting of Rolling Stock
- Delay Management
- Rolling Stock Rescheduling
- Simulation Tools for Railway Operations
- Timetable Information
Of particular interest are the successful
integration of several of these subproblems, the comparison
between different means of transport, and in the particular
case of railways the interaction between one network operator
and many train operating companies.

ATMOS 2007 is collocated with an
ARRIVAL
fall school
on Robust Network Design and Delay Management.
This school starts on November 14, 2007. ATMOS participants
must
register
through the webpage of the school.
It is possible to register for ATMOS and the fall
school, including the common Social Event on the
evening of Nov 15. Doing so, ATMOS participants may attend
the lectures of the following well-known speakers
- Ravindra K. Ahuja, University of Florida and Innovative Scheduling, USA
- Jens Clausen, Technical University of Denmark and DSB S-tog, Denmark
- Francisco García-Benítez, University of Sevilla, Spain,
- Ángel Marín, Polytechnical University of Madrid, Spain, and
- Anita Schöbel, University of Göttingen, Germany.
The school is organized by
Juan A. Mesa,
and Federico Perea, University of Sevilla.
Some
hotels
nearby the venue are recommended at the website of the ARRIVAL Fall School.

Accepted papers are presented at the
ATMOS 2007 workshop and can be accessed electronically at
DROPS.
A collection of selected papers will be published in a
special issue
of NETWORKS
to be guest edited by Christian Liebchen and Ravindra K. Ahuja.
This special issue of NETWORKS, entitled
Optimization in Scheduled Transportation Networks,
will also include other contributed papers. We invite authors to
contribute papers for this special issue by sending an email
to the guest editors. The deadline for receiving such papers is
January 31, 2008.
