Publicizing jReality idea

Post by gunn » Sun 14. Feb 2010, 14:54

I've been wondering how we can publicize jReality better. It occurs to me that there are quite a few Linux journals (in both german and english) where we might be able to contribute a short article on jReality, more or less an adaptation of the article we wrote for the open software contest for Multimedia 2009 (shorter), or the one for Software Technologies conference (longer). Or, perhaps it's better to write something from scratch, aimed exactly at the target audience (very practical, no fancy language or claims). Any suggestions on whether this is a good idea, and if so, what a likely journal might be?

Sounds like a good Idea!

The first two german magazins which crossed my mind were:
- c't and
- maybe the linux magazin
spezial for windowsuser I don't know anything. Maybe
- chip
- computer bild

onlinearticles could be interesting for:
heise.de:http://www.heise.de
golem.de:http://www.golem.de
chip.de:http://www.chip.de

But I think there will be spezialized magazins for computer graphics or something else, too. I'll check that point.

So I've checked several big newspaper and magazine stores. It seems, that there are no German computer-graphic-magazines.

Can anyone check this for American/English magazines?

I think we should discuss about the next steps:

- how to contact the mags
- which mags
- online-portals too or only magazines
- how long should be the article
etc.

That will be a nice point for the next developer meeting!

I edited the open vizualization page at the open knowledge foundation and put jreality
there:
http://wiki.okfn.org/OpenVisualisation

In September 2010 I talked also to Casey Reas from the software Processing, http://www.processing.org They are currently
in need for a scene graph.
I told him about jreality. I sent also an email to Ben Fry.
But I got no reply.

There will be a conference of the open knowledge foundation in Berlin at the end of June
which I intend to attend, I can talk about jreality there as best as I can, if someone
has questions, but for jreality it would be better if
someone of the developpers could talk or be there. Tim has to teach in Munich.

Hi nad,

thx for your support for jReality and sorry for our late reply. We will talk about this conference at our next developer meeting. I'm sure, that someone of our group will have time, to support you during that conference.

Just let us know as soon as it is certain that you will go to the conference. If you need any further information or support for jReality post it here and we will answer earlier the next time.

best Andre

Hi,

I'm new on this forum.

I would like to submit an idea : what about a Wikipedia page ?
The only reference in Wikipedia is on the page of Java3D and it is a link on this website.

I think Wikipedia offers a quick description for somebody who doesn't want to search in a website.
It is also a good way to show this is an active project and it would be usefull to add some information that is not present on the website (or that I didn't find) about the project history, comparison with other 3d engine, etc.

As far as I'm well informed it is strongly discouraged to write ones own wikipedia page. Nevertheless I'm sure there are people out there who put their CV on Wikipedia.
Having said this: Do we have a Volunteer here?

If I find some time (probably not before autumn), I'll do that. I thought about just adapt the feature site to wikipedia-style should be enough for the beginnig:
