Following tutorial with WebStart http://www3.math.tu-berlin.de/jreality/ ... r_Tutorial
Loading the OFF file does not do anything. Also tried VRML file. Nothing shows up. The file selection dialog does not list OFF as an option, so I tried changing to All Files, but still nothing happens when the OFF file is selected.
The OFF file I tried is at http://www3.math.tu-berlin.de/jreality/files/dodec.off
I am running SnowLeopard OSX 10.6.8.
The tutorial needs to be revised either with a procedure that actually loads those files, with a note about possible incompatibilities or security restrictions on some OS's, moving the bean shell instructions up where a polygon can be created earlier without file loading, or something. Just test it. This is probably the first thing people see when they hear about and come to evaluate jReality, so it is important for first impressions.
OFF file loading fails with OSX SnowLeopard in tutorial
Re: OFF file loading fails with OSX SnowLeopard in tutorial
Hi ted,
thx for your request. Its true, that this viewer can't read the dodec.off. Its also pretty weird, why he can't do that. I tried to load the dodecahedron with 3 different viewers which are all based on the used one and all could open the dodec.off. I I also tried to load an .obj-file with the tutorialviewer, this worked fine too...
I'll have a deeper look into this...
best regards
Andre
EDIT: The weirdest thing is, if I use the JRViewer.class from the eclipse repository, everything works fine, but the one from the webstart isn't working...

This bug should be fixed now. Thx for reporting.
Re: OFF file loading fails with OSX SnowLeopard in tutorial
It works for me now! I'm glad I didn't just leave.
JReality seems pretty much what I need, going way beyond my expectations. It's how Java3D should have been designed!
Keep up the good work.

Re: OFF file loading fails with OSX SnowLeopard in tutorial
Started using jReality as of yesterday (just what I've been looking for!) but the problem in the beginners tutorial discussed above is still there...
I am running OSX 10.7.5
Thanks
Christiaan

With my Ubuntu computer everything works fine. Sorry I can't reproduce your failure. Anyone else with OSX can confirm his error?

Hi,
I can reproduce this problem on ubuntu, and Charles on OS X. Maybe there's a dodec.off locally on your machine and the file path in the code of the webstart points to that?

I've updated the webstarts. Please try it again.
