Welcome to the G2S3 2017 Website!

The 8th Gene Golub SIAM Summer School will take place at the Akademie Berlin-Schmöckwitz in Germany and will be held in conjunction with the SIAM Activity Group in Linear Algebra (SIAG/LA) International Summer School on Numerical Linear Algebra.

The school is intended for Master and PhD students in mathematics and related programs who would like to learn about the state-of-the-art in the area of data sparse approximations and algorithms. The school will consist of four courses on the theory of sparse representation and approximation, tensor based methods and computation, algorithms for sparse numerical linear algebra, and sparsity in optimization. The lecturers of the school includeGene Golub

  • Bernhard G. Bodmann, University of Houston, USA
  • Lars Grasedyck, RWTH Aachen, Germany
  • Serge Gratton, University of Toulouse, INP-IRIT, France
  • Deanna Needell, UCLA, USA

All courses will have a strong computational component. The school will be held in the spirit of Gene Golub, with lots of interactions between the lecturers and the participants. A poster session during the summer school will give participating students the opportunity to present their own work to the whole group.

The school is being organized by Gitta Kutyniok, Jörg Liesen, and Volker Mehrmann, all from the Institute of Mathematics of the TU Berlin, Germany. Applicants selected to participate pay no registration. Funding for local accommodations and meal expenses will be available for all participants. Limited travel funds are also available.
