     Mathematical Signal and Image Processing (MSIP)
                          Newsletter 01/2019

Dear colleagues,

With this newsletter, we would like to inform you about about the
following topics:
1.) Annual GAMM MSIP Workshop in Raitenhaslach
2.) GAMM MSIP Assembly at this Workshop and Election
3.) Next Annual GAMM MSIP Workshop 2020
4.) New GAMM Activity Group on "Computational and Mathematical Methods
in Data Science"
5.) New Job Openings

1.) Annual GAMM MSIP Workshop in Munich
=======================================
In this year, our Annual MSIP-Meeting took place in Raitenhaslach some days ago. Topics ranging from imaging sciences up to machine learning were covered by four plenary talks by Bölcskei, Fadili, Lemvig, and Schnass and about 35 contributed talks. A great thanks for the perfect organization to Martin Burger, Brigitte Forster-Heinlein, Felix Krahmer, and Stefan Kunis.

2.) GAMM MSIP Assembly at this Workshop and Election
====================================================
During the Annual GAMM MSIP Workshop, we had our GAMM MSIP Assembly on 02.04.2019 at 6:15PM. The key topics were a report about our activities, an election, and discussion about the next Annual GAMM MSIP meeting (see item 3.).

Since Martin Burger wanted to resign, election for the co-chair position took place. Except for two members who abstained, Felix Krahmer and Stefan Kunis were unanimously elected as new co-chairs.

A great thanks to Martin Burger for his great service to our activity group, and a warm welcome to our two new co-chairs!

3.) Next Annual GAMM MSIP Workshop 2020
=======================================
During the GAMM MSIP Assembly in Raitenhaslach, it was decided that our next GAMM MSIP Assembly 2020 will take place as a Workshop on Mathematical Signal and Image Analysis in Raitenhaslach from 30.03. to 03.04.2020. We are looking forward to see you all there. Please mark the dates!

4.) New GAMM Activity Group on "Computational and Mathematical Methods in Data Science"
======================================================================================
During the GAMM Annual Meeting in Vienna in February 2019, a new GAMM Activity Group on "Computational and Mathematical Methods in Data Science" was founded. This group is devoted to provide a platform for researchers interested in or working on computational and mathematical concepts within the field of Data Science or wanting to enter it. for the initial first period of the activity group Gitta Kutyniok and Martin Stoll were proposed as chairs.

5.) New Job Openings (for the long version, please see our webpage)
