From September 4 to September 8, the enchanting setting of Seminarhotel Schorfheide-Döllnsee played host to the annual IRTG-CDT summer school.
Oxford’s Maud Lemercier delivered an outstanding mini-course on Recent advances in signature kernel methods. Coming from Vienna, Nathanael Berestycki captivated the audience with his insightful Introduction to Liouville Brownian motion and its spectral geometry. Their talks have been complemented by 3 CDT members based at Oxford who have presented their current research. On the Berlin front, 16 PhD candidates showcased their research endeavors.
Notably, this was the first time the second cohort of our PhD students had the opportunity to attend a summer school. An entire afternoon was dedicated to fostering connections and transferring experiences, enabling the new members to seamlessly integrate with their peers from the first cohort.
In addition to the formal sessions, the program provided abundant opportunities for attendees to participate in stimulating discussions. These interactions took place in various settings – within the confines of the hotel, by the shores of the Döllnsee, or during the leisurely Wednesday afternoon walk.
