Abstract:
There is a reasonably large literature about the work
of Polish cryptographers in deciphering
German Enigma traffic during the period 1932 - 1939,
starting apparently with parts of the Enigma
manual written by Alan Turing during World War II. In spite of
that, there remain some obscure points in
the mathematics involved, even though
it is elementary. I'll talk about
this mathematics, as well as show lots of pictures
of machines, manuscripts, and people.
